The Intelligence Grid

Sustainability

G42 is committed to creating technological breakthroughs that help to propel economies, empower communities, and protect and restore our planet. We recognize the pivotal role that technology can play in climate action and human empowerment, and we are determined to use our products, services and expertise to building a sustainable future for generations to come.

Our sustainability principles

  • Decarbonization

G42 is committed to reducing carbon emissions within our own operations, while our technologies help support customers and partners with developing cleaner operations.

  • Energy efficiency

G42 seeks to drive energy efficiency and conserve resources wherever practicable within our own operations, while using AI technologies to help customers optimize power management across governments and industries including public services, energy and transport.

  • Nature and biodiversity

G42’s approach to nature and biodiversity combines advanced genomics, AI and geospatial technologies. We conserve and enhance ecosystems through initiatives such as sequencing resilient plant genomes (e.g., the Ghaf tree), monitoring marine biodiversity, protecting pollinators and deploying Earth observation satellites for real-time environmental monitoring.

  • Climate resilience

G42 aims to bolster global climate resilience by developing AI-powered, high-precision weather forecasting tools that support data-driven decision-making for climate impact mitigation.

  • Safety

G42 assists in safeguarding communities with integrated physical, digital and cybersecurity solutions, and enables mission-critical emergency and disaster response.

Initiatives

Net zero by 2050

We aim to achieve net zero by 2050 (scopes 1 and 2) by optimizing our carbon footprint across data centers and broader operations. At the same time, our products and services help to support our customers achieve their sustainability goals and transition to a cleaner economy.

Green data centers

Khazna’s green data centers are built for sustainability, deploying renewable energy sources, advanced cooling systems, water conservation and waste reduction strategies that seek to optimize environmental performance. Khazna aims to ensure its digital infrastructure aligns with clients’ carbon reduction strategies and national decarbonization targets. G42 and Microsoft are also establishing a cutting-edge green data center in Kenya, run entirely on renewable geothermal energy and designed with state-of-the-art water conservation technology.

Environmental genomics

In partnership with the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, M42 completed the genome sequencing of the Ghaf tree, the UAE’s national tree, which thrives in arid climates. This will help us to develop a more resilient plant species and guide conservation efforts in the MENA region. M42, Space42, OceanX and the Energy Agency Abu Dhabi are leveraging genomics, geospatial technologies and AI to track and enhance marine biodiversity and study climate change’s impact on UAE waters.

Trillion Bees Coalition

G42 co-founded the Trillion Bees Coalition (launched at COP28) to protect pollinators and reverse biodiversity loss. In 2024, we deepened our commitment to the coalition via “Bee the Change” documentary, which anchored World Bee Day activations at the Cannes Film Festival, amplifying global awareness. Throughout the year, G42’s geospatial-AI and multi-omics platforms were applied to additional pilot landscapes, generating high-resolution pollinator-habitat maps that will guide upcoming restoration projects.

AI for Good - AI for Pollinators Health

Abu Dhabi AI for Good is creating a global, AI-powered mapping tool that integrates fragmented datasets on pollinators, their diversity and environmental threats. Combining efforts from G42, BugLife and the University of Reading, the tool will identify risk zones and conservation priorities by layering data on stressors like toxic pesticides, pathogens to pollinators, climate change, habitat loss and emerging threats like microplastics and light pollution.

Climate Tech Lab

G42, led by Inception, and NVIDIA have partnered to develop AI solutions aimed at dramatically enhancing the accuracy of weather forecasting globally. The collaboration builds on NVIDIA’s Earth-2, an open platform that accelerates climate and weather predictions with interactive, AI-augmented, high-resolution simulation. Key to this initiative is the establishment of a new operational base and Climate Tech Lab in Abu Dhabi, a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a hub for research and development.
